Ton Bevers Award for Best Bachelor Thesis The award The department of Arts and Culture Studies founded the Ton Bevers Award for Best Bachelor Thesis in 2013. The award is named after emeritus professor Ton Bevers, one of the founders of Arts and Culture Studies in Rotterdam. By awarding this prize the department of Arts and Culture Studies aims to stimulate academic excellence, enthusiasm and creativity. Criteria? A jury will evaluate the theses based on the following criteria: - Scientific relevance as well as significance for the field of arts and culture - Theoretical excellence and methodological rigor - Innovative thinking and creative writing skills In other words: a thesis which shows all that Arts and Culture Studies in Rotterdam has to offer. What is the prize? - A ridiculous amount of symbolic capital - €100 (in vouchers) Who can apply? - All students Arts and Culture Studies who have written their BA thesis in 2014 (both regular and pre-master students) - Only students whose thesis has been graded an 8 or higher How to apply? - Students can apply by providing Pauwke Berkers (L2-07) with three hard copies of their thesis - Deadline: 1 July 2014

Dracula

Nog even en wij hebben een heuse graaf in huis, Graaf Dracula Flinn. Wie goed kijkt, ziet twee prachtige centrale snijtanden in de onderkaak en de puntjes van twee laterale snijtanden in de bovenkaak. Moeders arm wordt inmiddels gesierd door een prachtige blauwe plek op de plaats waar Dracula-in-spe zijn setje witte parels even wilde uitproberen.

Verboden

Ik ken alle plekjes. De combinatie tussen een elektrische fiets en een botanisch geïntereseerde is perfect. Mijn fiets zoeft en ik speur de bermen af. Ik kan stoppen in één tel en met mijn telefoon knip ik foto's.

Dit zijn bijenorchideëen. Een mannetjesbij wordt gelokt door de bloem die lijkt op een vrouwtjesbij, zo wordt de bloem bevrucht.

Maar wat gebeurt er? De machines komen en maaien rücksichtslos (natuurlijk een Duits woord) alles af.

Dit heb ik gered. Twee vaasjes wilde orchideeën en een vaasje wilde gladiolen. Verboden te plukken, maar met de maaier achter mij, voel ik me niet schuldig. Als de weg naar Olland. Maar dan chic.
